On October 21, Orbbec, a leader in robotics and AI vision technology, announced the launch of its next-generation Gemini 335Lg Stereo Vision 3D Camera at ROSCon 2024. In collaboration with Advantech, a global industrial IoT leader, Orbbec has integrated GMSL2 and FAKRA connectors into the Gemini 335Lg, and offers compatible driver support for the latest NVIDIA Jetson platform such as NVIDIA® Jetson AGX Orin™, enabling seamless connection of Gemini 335Lg to Advantech’s AI computing platforms. This integration is optimized for NVIDIA Jetson platforms, allowing for high-performance vision processing and AI inference, simplifying the development of AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) applications. This partnership offers innovative capabilities, including the collaboration of up to four stereo vision 3D cameras, enhancing AMR performance with improved efficiency, stability, and mobility.

Building on the success of the Gemini 335L, which was introduced in April, the new Gemini 335Lg features the same excellent depth performance but with added GMSL2 and FAKRA connectors. These improvements enable higher bandwidth and longer, more stable data transmission over distances of up to 15 meters, making the 335Lg ideal for high-speed, long-distance, and rugged environments where electromagnetic interference or uneven terrain might pose challenges. The extended cable length and stable connectivity ensure that robots can operate without interruption, even in the most demanding scenarios.

Advantech’s MIC-733-AO edge AI system, built on the NVIDIA® Jetson AGX Orin™ platform, supports up to 275 TOPS of AI performance and can handle up to four Orbbec 3D cameras via the GMSL2 interface. This enables developers to deploy larger and more complex AI models across multiple applications, accelerating the adoption of AI in robotic systems.

“Orbbec’s partnership with Advantech is a timely response to the growing demand for high-performance AMR solutions in today’s AI-driven market,” said Kenny He, Senior Advisor at Orbbec. “Our ‘out-of-the-box’ solution offers AMR developers a comprehensive and scalable vision platform to meet a variety of needs, from outdoor robots and delivery systems to collaborative robotic arms.”

“High-speed image transmission and processing are critical for AMRs operating in dynamic environments. The combination of Orbbec’s Gemini 335Lg and Advantech’s AI edge solutions enables precise Depth+RGB imaging, fully supporting NVIDIA Isaac Perceptor and Isaac ROS workflows,” said Magic Pao, AVP of Edge Server Group at Advantech. “This partnership empowers AMR developers to accelerate commercialization across various indoor and outdoor applications, bringing AI-enhanced robotics to market faster.”

Orbbec’s Gemini 330 series, including the Gemini 335 and 335L models, was launched in April and marked the first appearance of Orbbec’s proprietary MX6800 depth engine chip, combined with hybrid stereo imaging technology. The Gemini 335L is designed for outdoor and large-scale robotic applications, offering a long baseline, high precision, and IP65 protection. The Gemini 335 is optimized for smaller, indoor robots, providing IP5X dust protection and a compact form factor for increased design flexibility. The GMSL2/FAKRA upgrade in the Gemini 335Lg retains the same USB Type-C interface and unified SDK as the Gemini 335L, allowing seamless integration for customers who have already deployed the Gemini 335L.

The integrated solutions of Orbbec’s 3D stereo cameras and Advantech’s edge AI systems are now available. For more information, visit Orbbec’s website.
