Empowering Robots with 3D Cameras for Autonomous Cleaning

Founded by Dylan Ng, Michelle Seow, and the renowned robotics professor, Dr. Mohan Rajesh Elara, LionsBot is dedicated to creating simple, powerful, and reliable robots that alleviate the workload of cleaning staff. In 2023, LionsBot introduced the R3 Vac and R3 Scrub Pro robots, equipped with Orbbec’s binocular structured light cameras, alongside the MagicTag accessory. The R3 Vac, designed for offices, retail spaces, community areas, and other high-traffic indoor environments, is a professional-grade vacuum robot. The R3 Scrub Pro is a professional-grade scrubbing robot for deep cleaning in tight spaces within airports, supermarkets, and healthcare facilities.

The Orbbec 3D cameras, featured in LionsBot’s R3 Vac and R3 Scrub Pro robots, embody cutting-edge binocular structured light depth imaging technology. This advanced camera delivers depth images of high fill rate and precision, crucial for the robots’ intelligent navigation and obstacle avoidance capabilities.

Before LionsBot, initiating cleaning robots typically took several minutes. Now, it takes less than 30 seconds for the robots to start cleaning. Cleaning staff can deploy the robots in minutes with a “zero-click” operation on the touchscreen. Subsequently, simply pushing the robot near a MagicTag triggers it to start working automatically.

LionsBot’s innovative design significantly enhances the efficiency of cleaning staff, thanks to the reliable support of Orbbec’s 3D vision sensors. Indoor and outdoor cleaning scenarios often involve various types of obstacles, such as high-gloss reflective and black floor stickers, which can interfere with cameras and lead to misjudgments by robots.
