Captic Revolutionizes Manufacturing with AI-Vision Technology and Orbbec Depth Cameras

Captic, an innovative AI startup from Ghent, Belgium, is transforming manufacturing by addressing labor shortages with its plug-and-play AI-Robotics and Inspection systems. Leveraging Orbbec 3D cameras, Captic has created cutting-edge AI vision systems that enable automation to handle variety and complexity, surpassing the limitations of traditional systems.

Traditionally, implementing AI-driven automation required an expert team or external consultants. Captic eliminates these barriers with a simple process: plug in the system, follow the configuration wizard, and start automating. For added convenience, Captic systems can also control robots directly, removing the need for specialized programming skills.

Manufacturing Faces Labor Shortage Challenges,Captic Helps Innovation-Driven Companies Break Through

The manufacturing sector faces increasing challenges due to labor shortages and growing demands for productivity. Traditional automation has already replaced straightforward manual tasks, leaving behind roles that require human adaptability due to variety or complexity. Many of these jobs are physically taxing, hazardous, or monotonous, making recruitment and retention increasingly difficult.

Captic addresses this by automating these hard-to-fill roles. Its integrated solution combines advanced hardware, such as Orbbec 3D cameras, with sophisticated software and an intuitive user interface. This end-to-end approach enables manufacturers to configure and monitor systems with ease, driving productivity and innovation.

The Captic AIR (AI-Robotics) portfolio currently offers two options:
● AIR DEPAL – Automates all depalletizing tasks, regardless of complexity.
● AIR PICK & PLACE – Handles high-speed pick-and-place

Gemini 335Lg for AIR PICK & PLACE

The solution’s product portfolio includes the Gemini 335Lg, Orbbec’s latest GMSL2/FAKRA Stereo Vision 3D Camera. The Gemini 335Lg provides high frame-rate, high-resolution data transmission for Captic’s AIR PICK & PLACE. With a bandwidth of up to 6Gbps, the Gemini 335Lg offers faster data transfer speeds than mainstream GigE cameras, ensuring more stable and smooth operation during dynamic tasks. Even in high-speed, high-frequency close-range pick-and-place operations, it delivers real-time image data to the analysis system, with a depth measurement error of less than 0.8% within 2 meters.

Femto Mega I for AIR DEPAL

The solution’s product portfolio includes the Orbbec Femto Mega I, a programmable multi-mode industrial-grade ToF camera. It features a high-resolution iToF sensor with millions of pixels, 4K RGB imaging, and is powered by NVIDIA’s high-performance chip and advanced depth algorithms. This capability enables Captic’s AIR DEPAL to capture high-quality depth information and 3D layouts of target objects, allowing the system to accurately identify and locate the position, shape, and orientation of stacked items. The system is designed to prevent collisions and errors, thereby significantly enhancing the system’s level of automation.

Captic Offers a Wide Range of Application Systems, Facilitating Automation Across Diverse Industries

Captic’s AIR-DEPAL is used in various sectors, but all with a similar purpose. Allowing a robot to see products so it can do the heavy lifting instead of human workers.
● Logistics and Food industry: Mixed-pallet depalletizing for cardboard boxes.
● Food industry: Feeding slabs of meat into a packaging machine.
● Building materials: depalletizing bricks.

Captic’s AIR-PICK&PLACE is mostly being used in pharmaceutical sector and the food preparation industry. Thanks to its high-speed (enabling 70 picks / minute) it’s ideal for feeding packaging machines or meal preparation since it can pick scrambled products from a bin.

Utilizing Orbbec’s extensive range of 3D cameras, Captic can tailor its offerings to suit the unique requirements of each application.

Captic CEO Jonathan Kesteloot said, “Orbbec 3D cameras are an essential part of our solutions, providing critical 3D data that plays a key role in our system applications. At Captic, we offer more than just hardware and software – we provide end-to-end solutions. We believe that, as our partnership with Orbbec continues to grow, we will be able to bring our innovations and transformations to even more factories.”
